Waffle House:


Quick History: Waffle House is indeed a real place.  Waffle House was first founded in the year 1955.  As of October of 2022 there are 1,900 locations across the United States.

Note: This village was is actually the HO size for a train set.  However, many village collectors add these pieces into their villages because they are close in scale to some other brands of Christmas villages.

Wakefield Books:


Quick History: Wakefield Books is a real store that is an independent book store.  There is a village with this same name and to be honest not sure if it is based upon the store.  However, it is listed in the event that it is based upon the store.  This is one you would have to be the judge on.  As of October of 2022 this bookstore is still in business. 


Walgreens:



Quick History: Walgreens is a real place.  Walgreens was founded in 1901 and is still in operation as of December of 2021. 


Note: The Walgreens that is pictured below does have the Walgreens logo added to it.  However, if you look above the doorway it says Walgreens.  This was the first location that was opened. Honestly, I love having the Walgreens logo on this building because it makes it stand out more. 


Walmart:


Quick History: Walmart is indeed a real place.  Walmart is a discount retail store and has locations all over the world.  As of December of 2021 it is said to be the largest company in the world in regards to revenue.

Walton's 5-10:


Quick History: Walton's was indeed a real place. Walton's is what Walmart first started out as.  Walton's first opened in May of 1950.  Then 12 years later in 1962 is when the first Walmart store was opened by the same man that opened up Walton's.  The first Walton's location is still open today.  However, it serves as a Walmart visitor's center.

Watson's:


Quick History: Watson's Department store was indeed a real place.  It first opened up in 1907 and grew to a large department store that had multiple locations throughout the United States.  Then in 1998 it was bought out by Peebles and the locations were converted to Peebles locations.

Wegmans:


Quick History: Wegmans store is indeed a real place.  It first opened up in 1916 and grew to have over 100 locations within the USA.  As of October of 2022 this company is still in business.


Wegmans Organic Farm:


Quick History: Wegmans Organic Farm is indeed a real place.  It first opened up in 2007 and is located in New York.  This farm is owned by the Wegmans store company.  As of October of 2022 this company is still in business.


Wells Fargo Co:


Quick History: Wells Fargo Co is indeed a real place and is a bank.  It has been around for many many years.  It is still in operation as of October of 2022.


Wendy's:


Quick History: Wendy's first opened in 1969 and has grown very large.  It has thousands of locations across the United States.  As of October of 2022 it is still in operation.

Western Auto:


Quick History: Western Auto was a company that start out in the year 1909.  The company lasted until around the year 2003 when its merger with Advance Auto Parts in 1998 finally led to the branding being no longer used.

White Castle:


Quick History: White Castle is a fast food company that first opened up in 1921.  White Castle is still in operation as of December of 2021 with 377 locations that can be found within 13 states.

White Rose Crafts & Nursery:


Quick History: White Rose Crafts & Nursery was indeed a real place that operated within the Country of Canada.  It was in operation until the year of 2002 when it went through bankruptcy and closed all of its stores.   

 

White Tower:


Quick History: White Tower was a fast food chain that first stated out in 1926.  It was said that due to the similar white fortress like buildings as White Castle that the locations were imitators of White Castle.  At its peak in the 1950's White Tower had over 230 locations throughout the United States.  There is still one location of White Tower opened as of December of 2021 and it is located in Toledo, Ohio.    


Winn Dixie:


Quick History: Winn Dixie first started out in the year 1925.  In the year 1955 is when the company that we now know as Winn Dixie officially changed their name to Winn Dixie.  There are currently 369 total locations of Winn Dixie as of the year 2023.  However, what is interesting about Winn Dixie is that they sold the company to Aldi which finally completed the purchase in March of 2024.  Aldi has announced that they will keep some of the locations but change some of them to the Aldi grocery store brand.  So, as of October of 2024 Winn Dixie still has some locations open.
